IceBreaker’s Guide to Wii Gaming

Nintendo Wii

Nintendo Wii

One too many times have i stared into the Wii section at a Walmart or video rental store, and thought to myself  ”Damn, this thing really has no games.”

After deciding to say “Why not,” and pick up a few games that looked slightly promising, i was blown away by them.

Here is a list of Wii games that you may or may not know about, but are fairly fun to play.

Mario Kart Wii

Yes, yes, one of the launch titles, i know.

Mario on Bike

Mario

But really, its a super fun game.

With tons of racing tracks to play on, and and 24 nintendo characters to race as, you’ll be busy for a while.

Racing tracks include some oldies, tracks from the old SNES version, some from the Nintendo 64, Game Cube, and even the Game Boy Advanced and Nintendo DS versions as well as new versions exclusive to the Mario Kart Wii, totaling 32 different tracks to play on.

The game was also modified a bit, instead of everyone using a cart and characters being separated by weight, each character has a set of carts and bikes, each with different stats, while the character provides bonuses to those stats.

Yes, Toad could very possibly ram Bowser off the road, which would be impossible in the previous titles.

Mario Kart Wii also supplies an Online feature, allowing you to race with players in either your region, worldwide, or with friends over Nintendo WiFi Connection.

While most characters are nintendo title characters, there are also Mii characters you can use, which allow you to race as your Mii.

From what we’ve seen online, you could very well end up racing against Micheal Jackson or even Gordon Freeman.

Call of Duty 4

While you probably saw this coming, it truely is a fun experiance.

Call of Duty 4 Reflex Edition

CoD4 Reflex Edition

Infinity Ward has setup the control scheme to utilize the Wiimote motion sensing for some of the actions in the game.

To reload, you shake the Nunchuck (How cool is that??)

While the graphics have been toned down, some of the interactivity makes up for it.

This game is, in almost every way, the same as the PC version, with the exception of wiimote controls.

Also, this game utilizes the Nintendo WFC, allowing online play.

I can only say this about this game: Its fun.

The Conduit

What? A FPS Game for the Wii you’ve never heard of?!

I had never heard of this game until i saw it on the shelf and remembered an event in a certain web forum, leading a reply about this game becoming a meme.

But besides all of that, this game is quite honestly a very awesome experience.

The graphics aren’t Modern Warfare 2, but its still up to par. The graphics engine in this game provides many next gen effects such as real time particles, dynamic lighting, bump mapping and normal mapping, specular mapping, glow effects as well as depth of field.

The aiming controls seem to be the most fluid I’ve seen, even better than that of Call of Duty 4.

The storyline is unique, having to do something about government conspiracy tying with alien invasion (I’m still a little fuzzy on the whole thing).

If you wanted to compare it to a game, i would have to say this game is the Halo of the Wii. Its unique, its fun.

Included with the package comes some online multiplayer, with gamemodes ranging from your average Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch, to Capture the flag type game modes and King of the hill game modes. To top it all off, this game is Wii Speak compatible.
